Globale inhoud

Information Management today struggles with its identity mainly due to its traditional focus on technology and information production. We move away from this view towards a view where information use is recognized as the sole source for sustainable value added. Several aspects of this move are highlighted in the course. Topics covered may include for example:

  • a critical examination of the assumptions underlying the central notions of information and knowledge management and contrasting these core notions with alternative ones.
  • a historical contextualization of the field by focussing on the role of information management before the introduction of ICT.
  • an examination of actual and emergent issues which are crucial for information management in the coming years, e.g. organizational identity, sourcing issues, customer-focus and flexibility.
  • an exploration of implications of the above for knowledge management
