This is a first course on qualitative properties of dynamical systems: the mathematical field that generally describes the motion of objects in a space of interest and combines analysis, geometry, topology and probability. We will study asymptotic stability of fixed points and periodic orbits, ODEs, limit cycles and conservative systems, symbolic dynamics and coding, topological transitivity and chaos, dimension theory, chaotic attractors and fractals, entropy and mixing, hyperbolic dynamics and invariant manifolds.

The lectures will give definitions and key insights alongside important examples, providing a clear narrative in building up the theory of Dynamical Systems.
The werkcolleges will assist with solving exercises that are supposed to be approached in self study. The werkcolleges will also give insights into model solutions.

Attendance of hoorcolleges is highly advised.
Attendance of the werkcolleges is obligatory. Students need to attend at least 80% of the werkcolleges in order to participate in the exam, in accordance with OER-B artikel 4.9 lid 2.
In the werkcolleges there will be three tests that will contribute to the final grade.

The midterm test counts for 25%.
The three homework tests in the werkcolleges count for 15%.
The Final Exam counts for 60% and must be passed (i.e., at least 5.5/10) in order to pass the test at the first attempt.
If the course is not passed, there will be the chance of a resit that then counts for 100% of the grade.
