De volgende concepten worden behandeld: ensembletheorie, Boltzmann statistiek, toestandssom, vrije energie, Bose-Einstein en Fermi-Dirac statistiek, wisselwerkende deeltjes. Toepassingen: thermische excitatie van atomen, paramagnetisme, Maxwellverdeling, gedegenereerde Fermigassen, Sommerfeldontwikkeling, straling van een zwart lichaam, kosmische achtergrondstraling, Debijetheorie, Bose-Einstein faseovergang, clusterontwikkeling, Curie-Weiss model voor een ferromagneet.
