Globale inhoud

Information visualization focuses on learning to work with, and extract information from, data. The goal of the course is to give students the practical skills to efficiently become familiar with a new dataset, find simple patterns in it, and communicate and report on it using visualizations, storytelling, and standard metrics.

  • Discover and quantify associations in data collections.
  • Use visualization software to visualize data.
  • Reflect on the informational and aesthetic quality of a visualization.
  • Argue a chosen point of view on the basis of, and with, data.

Lectures (hoorcollege) will be given in English, as well as all the teaching materials (e.g., lecture slides, Jupyter notebooks) and assessment materials (e.g., exam questions, exam instructions, assignment content). Seminars (werkcollege and laptopcollege) will be given in either Dutch or English, depending on the TA's choice.
