The Global objectives of the AMEP Seminar are two-fold:

  • get to know the rich research landscape in the Amsterdam research institutes and research groups that underpin the AMEP MSc track
  • grow together as a cohort "AMEP Class of 2025" by organising together
    1. a series of (12) talks about:
      • what it is like to do research in the groups powering AMEP
      • hearing from AMEP alumni about the kinds of (really very cool) jobs they go onto after graduation
    2. oganising social events also involving the AMEP Class of 2024, and reaching out to the BSc cohorts in the Physics & Astronomy joint degree programme

Registration automatically requires active participation in the organization and execution of the weekly sessions and related activities.

Objectives

  • Identify the stakeholders of the AMEP track and summarise their roles.
  • Outline the different research directions at the different institutes/departments participating in AMEP.
  • Demonstrate the ability to organise effectively.
  • Communicate like a professional with AMEP Seminar stakeholders such as donors, speakers (both researchers and alumni), reach out to BSc students.
  • Produce and post attractive and effective content on X, Instagram and AMEP.Amsterdam in keeping with a graduate, professional environment.
  • Apply the info in the AMEP Seminar to assess which research direction and project in which research group is the right one for your MSc Thesis Project.

Teaching methods

  • Working independently on e.g. a project or thesis
  • Presentation/symposium
  • Supervision/feedback meeting

Presentation/symposium
the weekly sessions vary between the following types:

  • intra-AMEP seminar sessions
    • organisational meet-ups in which the group (+ instructor) discuss the goals, who-does-what
      • AMEP.Amsterdam, social media, organising speaker Seminars, social events
    • the AMEP-ers receive coaching on how to reach those goals
    • once a month, the AMEP Seminar session is used by the track coordinator to discuss course choices and progress; thus boosting effective 2-way communication between the track leadership and the AMEP cohort
  • AMEP Seminars with presenters from research and alumni
