Objectives

  • The student will become familiar with the physical and mechanical properties of porous materials (unconsolidated and consolidated ones).
  • The student will understand the mechanisms involved in transport processes in porous media and will be able to work with the equations that govern the fate and transport of gas, water, and solutes in porous media.
  • The student will be able to link the fundamental and transport properties of these materials to some applied research going on in this field: how the fundamental concepts acquired are used in applied research to better understand and predict the behavior of porous and granular materials in some applications.
