The course consists of one introductory lecture and seven full day experiments. The aim of this course is to provide the student with experience with techniques employed in organic chemistry laboratory. Practical applications of the reactions learned in Introduction in organic chemistry such as those of carbonyls, and substitution reactions are part of this course. In addition to performing reactions, students are introduced to purification techniques and spectroscopic analysis. Laboratory procedures include acid-base extraction, distillation, chromatography, crystallization and quantitative multi-step synthesis.
